Sri Dalada Maligawa

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Tooth which enshrines the Holy Tooth Relic, one of the Holiest Shrines in the Buddhist World is located in Kandy. According to history the Tooth Relic was brought to Sri Lankan in the reign of King Kirti Sri Meghavarna (301-328) in Anuradhapura, by Princess Hemamali from Kalinga, India

The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage has not only got the largest captive herd of elephants in the entire World, but it also has become the most successful elephant breeding centre.
Peradeniya Botanic Garden.

Also on the way to Kandy just 10 minutes before Kandy Town is the World Famous Peradeniya Botanic Garden. Set up in 1832, the well laid out Gardens and Herbariums and Green Houses in a massive 57 Hectares of Land contain the most exquisite Flora in diversity and a myriad of colours and hues unimaginable. The entire Garden is bounded on one side by the picturesque Mahaweli River, Sri Lankas longest. Situated in the Prime Cultural area adjacent to the Temple of the Tooth, consists of artifacts and items of historical and archaeological interest, particularly relevant to the Kandy period. National Museum

Situated behind the Temple of the Tooth, in a building of historical and architectural interest. The collections are all of the Kandyan Period (17th -18th Centure). Open daily from 09.00Hr to 17.00Hrs.
Victoria Dam

Victoria Dam in close proximity to Victoria Range is located in a deeply incised gorge in the Dumbara Valley, immediately downstream of the confluence of the River Mahaweli & the Hulu Ganga River in Teldeniya. It is a double curvature arch dam,122m (400ft) high, & 507m (1663ft) long measured along the crest. Its design is said to be the most suitable for the geological conditions & terrain at Victoria. It has created a storage reservoir of 730 million cubic meters & a power capacity of 210MW. 12th April 1985, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at the commissioning of Victoria Dam, Sri Lanka.
